Everyone feels ‘sad’ or ‘blue’ at times and usually, relatively quickly,

these feelings subside. However, someone with depression

experiences intense sadness or despair that lasts for two weeks or

longer. Symptoms of depression can lead to a variety of emotional

and physical problems as well as decrease a person’s ability to

function at home and at work.

If you are suffering from depression you might find yourself losing interest in activities you once enjoyed, changes in appetite and sleep, difficulty concentrating, and/or feelings of hopelessness. It is estimated that one in six people will experience depression at some time in their life. Fortunately, depression is highly treatable when an individual receives competent care. Receiving quality treatment is crucial because if gone untreated, depression can last for a long time and even worsen other illnesses.

As a licensed psychologist I am highly skilled at treating depression and helping clients recover from it. Many research studies have deemed therapy as an effective treatment for depression and relieving its symptoms. In therapy you can expect to identify factors that are contributing to your depression and learn how to effectively cope with them. We will also identify negative thought patterns that may be contributing to feelings of hopelessness and work to change them. You will also develop concrete skills to relieve suffering and prevent later bouts of depression. These skills may include new ways to cope with challenges and creating a personal plan that includes positive lifestyle changes.
